The Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code Council (LSUCCC) was created in 2005 by Act 12, 1st Ex. Sess., of the Legislature (La. R.S. 40:1730.21-40:1730.40). The mission and purpose of this agency is to maintain reasonable standards of construction in buildings and other structures in the state consistent with the public health, safety, and welfare of its citizens. The Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code Council consists of seventeen members appointed by the Governor. The council is comprised of individuals with various professional backgrounds including construction, engineering, architecture, insurance and local government.
The primary function of the council is to review and adopt the state uniform construction code, provide training and education of code officials, and accept all requests for amendments of the code, except the Louisiana State Plumbing Code [Part XIV (Plumbing) of the State Sanitary Code]. If the council determines that an amendment if justified, it may enact such an amendment after finding on the record that the modification provides a reasonable degree of public health, safety, and welfare. Additionally, the council shall establish the requirements and process for the registration and continuing education of building code enforcement officers, third party providers, and wind mitigation surveyors.
